Houston Barbecue Festival gathers area's best experts all in one spot
This weekend, the third annual Houston Barbecue Festival (Sunday; 1-5 p.m.) invades NRG Park with an impressive lineup of more than 20 participating barbecue joints, serving up brisket, ribs, sausage, and more. Among those taking part are Killen’s, Pizzitola's and Gatlin's, plus Louie Mueller out of Taylor, Texas and first-timers Blood Bros.
Festival goers will also get a preview taste of smoky goods from Pinkerton’s, set to open later this year.
“It’s pretty much everyone you’ve ever wanted to try, all in once place, all at the same time. And it’s all for one price, which is so great. If you don’t have a lot of experience with Houston barbecue, this is the place to get caught up in a hurry,” says CultureMap’s Eric Sandler.
A portion of the proceeds go to non-profit Vita-Living, Inc., which helps provide lifelong support programs for adults and children with disabilities such as cerebral palsy and autism.
Alas, the event has proven to be so popular that tickets sold out on Friday. We'll update the story if some tickets become available. If not, wait until next year?
