Extreme Makeover turns Kemah family saga into an Easter special
When Extreme Makeover: Home Edition looked for a family to feature in a two-hour Easter special, it turned to Kemah.
Extreme Makeover overhauled the Kemah home of foster parents Larry and Melissa Beach (the last name was not scripted) after it was destroyed by Hurricane Ike — they had been living in a travel trailer with their 13 children. Now the grand reveal (if you didn't drive down for filming Jan. 14) is slated for a two-hour special episode this Sunday.
Originally, the family's tale was slated to be a regular episode, but now the story filled with both heartwarming and heartbreaking moments is getting the Easter treatment. (Jessica Alba is in the special as a celebrity volunteer).
The new energy-efficent home is a blessing for the Beaches, who in 23 years of marriage fostered more than 85 children, many with special needs. One of those children, 1-year-old daughter Mercy, died this month after having seizures.
When it comes to grace, we can't think of a better time to watch this family's touching story than Easter Sunday. Tune in at 7 p.m.
Or head to Kemah, where the city is holding a viewing party on Sunday night that will close 6th Street. Larry and Melissa Beach are scheduled to make an appearance.
