The Galleria will soon be home to a new Mexican restaurant. Blanco Tacos and Tequila, a taco-centric spot from Arizona-based Fox Restaurant Concepts (North Italia, Flower Child) will open December 17, the company announced.
Located in the Galleria directly below Nobu and next to Fig & Olive, Blanco serves an eclectic menu that's a little different than the Tex-Mex restaurants Houstonians love. For example, cheese enchiladas come with "grilled onion and creamy ancho sauce" instead of the standard chile gravy.
Taco options run the gamut with everything from old school ground beef in a hard shell to carnitas, barbecue pork, and seafood options that include crispy shrimp and grilled mahi. Other menu highlights include hamachi and watermelon ceviche and short rib machaca.
As its name implies, Blanco serves a full range of tequila and mezcal. In addition to no fewer than eight different margaritas, diners may opt for tequila flights, too.
Between now and opening day, Blanco expects to hire approximately 140 people to staff the restaurant. It will hold job fairs from 10 am to 6 pm November 12-21 and November 26-28.
Blanco seems well-positioned to make a splash in the Galleria area. It will be less upscale than Mexican seafood served at Caracol and a little more polished than the old-school Tex-Mex at Los Cucos. Most importantly, it has a head start on the Original Ninfa's that's coming to the former Peska space next year.
Blanco Tacos and Tequila opens next month.
