Pitchin' in the kitchen
The kitchen at Kory Clemens' Katch 22 will never be the same, not after country superstar Toby Keith took over Monday night and cooked up a batch of his chicken fried pork ribs. Yes, it was a delicious scene on many levels when Roger Clemens took over the restaurant and bar for a celeb dinner in advance of his Rocketman Celebrity Slam at Minute Maid Park on Tuesday.
More than 100 Clemens fans and participants in the charity softball tournament stopped in for the high-level sports schmooze. Jeff Bagwell, Roy Oswalt, Brian Ching, Astros president Reid Ryan and country singer Billy Dawson were among the notables. Proceeds from the game benefit the Roger Clemens Foundation.
Executive chef Kory Clemens put on a spread that would have had lesser athletes reaching for the Alka-Seltzer.
Also on the scene was comedian, writer and major sports fan Robert Wuhl(remember him as HBO's sports agent in Arlis). In the middle of the rocking party, he conducted a live broadcast of his "Off the Wuhl" program that airs on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Fantasy Sports Channel.
Those in need of carb loading before the big athletic event, found their fill at Katch 22. Executive chef Kory put on a spread that would have had lesser athletes reaching for the Alka-Seltzer. Kory's famous Boston lobster rolls and his signature bacon-wrapped quail were just starters for the menu that included filet mignon, mahi mahi, chicken fried chicken, chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, Kory's Ultimate Mac-N-Cheese and a load of mini pies and desserts.
Chowing down on the feast were guests including Bagwell's steady squeeze Rachel Brown (ex-wife of the late hand doctor Michael Brown), singer Krystal Keith (Toby's daughter), Houston songbird Macy Medford, KHOU Channel 11's Chita Johnson, Jay Humphrey, Liz Eklund, Kasey Studdard, Lane Craft and the Rocket's wife, Debbie Clemens.
