Remaining politically correct, organizers of the Montgomery County Heart Ball might have been inspired by Duck Dynasty, but in order to distance themselves from the controversy, they themed their rollicking gala "Beards, Bucks, Divas and Ducks — An Evening of Camo and Lace."
And what a party it was with 750 camo/black-tie attired guests packing the ballroom of the Woodlands Waterway Marriott and raising $700,000 for the American Heart Association. Clearly, generosity and party prowess don't stop at the Houston city limits.
Hubba, hubba for chairs Dr. Mark Mettauer and businessman and former NFL player Rex Tucker. And kudos to the evening's honoree, jewelry designer Mark Pharo, who shared the story of his quintuple bypass in January and his mission to help end heart disease.
The camo-inspired dressing made for a visual feast along with the outdoorsman wonderland created by Gayelene McIngvale and Linda McIngvale of A Memorable Event. Unique elements for this off-beat gala included a duck hunt, heads-or-tails competition for a diamond and jewelry piece and a celebrity-designed duck auction. That latter diversion prompted the evening's emcee, KHOU Channel 11 meteorologist Chita Johnson, to remark that creating her own duck was one of the most entertaining challenges she has had.
Joining the camo scene were Suzanne and Bob Potter, Soly and Dr. Bruce Lachterman, Sue and Jim Adams, Dianne and George Lindahl, Theresa and Dr. Lamar Roemer, Coco and Kelly Mahoney, Candi and Gerald Glenn, Janet Wong and Ron Mullins, Julie and Andy Steinberg, Stacey and Steve Bourque and Michelle and Richard “Gordy” Bunch.
