We’re not sure if the River Oaks set is ready for this massive invasion of hipness, but the rest of us are excited that signs of life are taking place at Houston's first intown mixed-use complex. On the edge of that swanky neighborhood (where Westheimer and Kirby converge) a chic urban village with 398 luxury apartment homes offers upscale shopping, dining, and entertainment venues. West Ave boasts a total of 190,000 square feet of retail space and such high-end tenants as Tootsies, Sam and Lilli, Q Custom Clothier, Rye 51, Azur West, Ivannia boutique and Ivory Bridal Atelier. Also some of Houston's hottest new restaurants — Katsuya, Pondicheri, Alto and Eddie V's — are drawing large crowds and giving West Ave a lot of its buzz.
