They say that conversation is a lost art, but not at this museum. Inspired by the earlier turn-of-the-century cultural salons, the Contemporary Salon frequently held here (wine and cheese included, of course) promotes informal, informed and provocative dialogue between art experts and the general public and is one of this gallery’s most popular programs. Operating on the cutting edge of contemporary culture, Blaffer Art Museum is one of the city’s premier venues for open and ongoing engagement with the ever changing nature of modern art and mounts six to eight exhibitions each year that feature regional, national and international contemporary art. And the engagement doesn’t stop with the exhibitions—there are Brown Bag Gallery Tours led by highly respected authorities on art, where everyone on the tour is welcome to stay for lunch and continue the conversation. There’s also the "Artists Up Close" series that offers the public a chance to interact with exhibiting artists in round-table discussions. Go, and just try not to join in the compelling discourse.
