Built in 1923 for one of the founders of what would later become Exxon, the landmark Fondren Mansion was saved from the wrecking ball and re-purposed as a luxury hotel in 1981 by Steve Zimmerman.  More than 30 years later and fresh from a recent face-lift, La Colombe d’Or Hotel continues to attract an international clientele enamored with its unique ambiance.  Five, expansive mansion suites are filled with original art and antiques, and nine, residential-style villas surround a lush patio in an adjacent building.
