Straits is hard to get a read on. On one hand, the South Asian, mostly Singaporean flavors and sauces are amazing. We particularly loved the coconut shrimp fried rice and the spicy green chili sauce, even though the heat level has been toned down for American palettes.
On the other hand, Strait's dishes have a habit of coming out overcooked. Overdone lobster, anyone? The patio and private room areas are comfortable and gorgeous, but the general seating is rather crowded and trades in a sense of exotic refinement for a clubby vibe, complete with scantily-clad bar servers, top 40 jams and a unisex bathroom area we dubbed "club toilet" for its overwhelming hot pink lights. Maybe with practice and some direction the kinks can be worked out, but right now Straits is trying just a bit too hard.
