Be a hooligan for the weekend
Red alert! Houston has a sports team that wins: Where to watch the Dynamo chasetheir third MLS Cup
Matt Schaub is out for the season, the NBA season is all but canceled and who knows what is going to happen with the Astros. But don't worry, Houston. If you want to root for a hometown champion, put on your finest orange anything and get Dynamo fever as the soccer guys try to win their third MLS Cup on Sunday night.
Where's the best place to watch the game? Unless you've got last-minute tickets to Los Angeles, you'll be watching the action on the pitch via television, so you might as well embrace your inner hooligan and get rowdy at a sports bar. Here are the best places where fans will be gathering, and no one will be watching the Giants-Eagles game:
The official Dynamo viewing party is at Bar Munich in Midtown, and will feature the Dynamo Girls and the Dynamo Street Team, plus drink specials ($10 liters of Hofbrau).
Firkin & Phoenixalways brings out a full crowd for Dynamo games, and it's standing-room-only at big events like this year's Women's World Cup. So get excited, and prepare to order beers early.
Only one bar in Houston can claim to be named after the Dynamo, and it's Orange Sports Bar on Richmond. It's also the preferred watching spot for the Dynamo's Texian Army fan base, so expect a loud crew that understands the offsides rule.
Unsurprisingly, the best bars for watching soccer also tend to be the ones that are serious about beer in an old-world pub sense — think Richmond Arms, The Stag's Head, The Bull & The Bear and Brian O'Neill's.
For a vibe that's a little more casual and has better-than-average bar food, try Saint Dane's. If you have a friend who'd rather watch football American football (lame)Sawyer Parkhas enough flat screens to keep you both happy.
