It's not easy being Paul.
Paul the Octopus, that is, the German cephalopod who correctly predicted the outcome of Germany's seven World Cup games plus eventual winner Spain in 2010. With 60 decisions to make to complete an NCAA bracket down to the Final Four, we figured it couldn't hurt to give four animals a try for sports greatness.
But even though Patch the Pig and Zoë the Dog started out strong — correctly choosing all eight first round winners in their bracket regions as well as three out of four second-round matches and even more games into the elite eight — both pets saw their unlikely runs come to an end Sunday as their Final Four picks went down.
Patch's choice, Kansas, lost in a stunning upset to VCU in the Southwest while Zoë's pick, Arizona, couldn't quite get past a resurgent UConn in the West.
We're still amazed at how well our two psychic stars performed. The statistical odds of picking — at random — as many games correctly as they did is less than one in a million. So before you take bets on the final game, check back — the Final Four and Championship predictions are coming soon.
