Power lunch
Teach For America Houston gathers changemakers to fuel student potential
The Teach For America Houston’s Ignite Potential Luncheon once again proved that when a community rallies behind a cause, real change happens. More than 300 supporters, educators, and alumni gathered at The Briar Club on February 21 for the third annual event, which honored Cathryn and Doug Selman for their steadfast dedication to expanding educational opportunities.
Attendees were treated to an inspiring keynote from Ann B. Stern, president and CEO of the Houston Endowment, who spoke on the evolving education landscape and the critical role of leadership in shaping the future. The event was co-chaired by Deborah Cannon and Lori Sherman, both committed Teach For America Houston board members.
The luncheon raised $531,000, which will support Teach For America Houston’s mission of developing exceptional leaders and placing them in classrooms where they can make the most impact.
“It’s also a moment to reflect on our collective progress and renew our commitment to ensuring every student, regardless of background, has access to an excellent education,” said Tiffany Cuellar Needham, Teach For America Houston executive director.
Supporting education were Elisa Villanueva Beard, Asha and Farid Virani, Molly and Jim Crownover, Scott Wise, Kathy and Marty Goossen, Janet Clark, and Regina Rogers.
