A rockin' gala brings in $500,000 as The Temptations Review & heavy hitters helpUNCF
The black-tie attired guests departing the ballroom of the Hilton Americas-Houston practically floated out to valet parking on a partying high, inspired in part by the retro sounds of The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards and in part by the record dollars raised for the United Negro College Fund.
The UNCF gala brought in more than $500,000 thanks in no small part to underwriters H-E-B and Church Without Walls and to the efforts of the heavy-hitter chairs. How could a benefit do less than spectacular with the leadership of veteran gala chair Merele Yarborough and honorary chairs Anita and Gerald Smith and Y. Ping Sun and David Leebron?
Adding their own glamour notes to the evening were emcees Khambrel Marshall and Rachel McNeill, both of KPRC Channel 2.
Swaying to the goldie oldie Temptations tunes were Lora and Dr. John Clemmons, Arvia and Jason Few, Eileen and Kase Lawal, Gina Gaston, Steve McNair, Yvonne Cormier, Jodie Jiles and Sonny Messiah Jiles, Winell and Doug Herron, Sheretta and the Rev. Ralph West, State Rep. Garnet Coleman and wife Angelique.
