65th annual celebration
1,000 lawyers party in River Oaks: These Legal Eagles only want to do good
It's one of those must see-and-be-seen events for the legal community, the annual Harvest Celebration that raises funds for pro bono legal services for the poor, provided by members of Houston Volunteer Lawyers. Nearly 1,000 legal eagles turned out at River Oaks Country Club for the 65th annual fundraiser that brought in a record $670,000 for the cause.
The event is annually hosted by the Houston Bar Association, the Houston Bar Foundation and the HBA auxiliary. HBA president Carter Crow and wife Meredith joined foundation chair John Eddie Williams and wife Sheridan, and auxiliary president Hazel Donato.
Before the big crowds dropped in, more than 100 law firms, corporate legal departments and individuals were recognized as Equal Access Champions for helping individuals who do not have the means to pay for basic civil legal services.
Since the event was designated as a fundraiser 15 years ago, the Harvest Celebration has raised more than $6 million for the foundation which is the primary source of support the volunteer lawyers.
Stepping out on this night were Jennifer and Alex Higginbotham, Lily and Charles Foster, Wendy and Alistair Dawson, Meredith Clark, Dana and Neil Kelly, Stephanie Bundage, Annsley and Chris Popov and Leslie and Bill Buck.
