K9s4COPs unleashes paw-fect fundraiser honoring police chief and Lone Target star
A crowd of around 400 partygoers packed the ballroom at the JW Marriott Houston for the K9s4COPs “Unleashed” benefit. And it was all to show support for the Houston-based nonprofit that donates fully-trained K9 dogs to law enforcement agencies in 33 states and internationally in Paris.
K9s4COPs executive director Roseann Rogers welcomed everyone on behalf of founder and chairman Kristi Schiller. Throughout the evening, guests mixed, mingled — and snuggled — with two puppies, a Goldendoodle and a Labrador Retriever, both up for bid in a silent auction. Cheering the bidding on were several Houston Texans cheerleaders.
The fun turned serious for a brief time as interim Houston police chief Martha Montalvo was recognized for 36 years of outstanding service to the Houston Police Department. Mayor Sylvester Turner, Houston Police Board chairman Tilman Fertitta, Harris County district attorney Devon Anderson and Houston Police Foundation member Bill Nelson all paid tribute to Montalvo via a video presentation.
Also honored was Navy SEAL veteran Joel Lambert of the Discovery Channel’s Lone Target reality TV show who received the inaugural “Leader of the Pack” award for his stalwart support of the charity.
Celebrating the evening were event co-chairs Laurie Krohn and Rachel Racz, Jeff McShan, Lara Bell, Lindsey Aronstein, Lori Freese, Heidi and Nicholas Rockecharlie, Desiree and Phil Lonsway, Abby Lestin, Sonia Soto, George and Esther Puig, Harris County district clerk Chris Daniels, Lloyd Rude, Barbara Bailey, Parisa Moayedi, Megha Tejpal, Lori and John Henderson, Miss Texas USA 2017 Nancy Gonzalez, and K9s4COPs board members Dr. Aashish Shah, Sara McKinney, Dave Deleon, and Richard Ray.
