Veuve Clicquot's Yelloween salute to masked merriment uncovers Sherlock Holmes
Yelloween, which began several years ago as a rollicking good time in the River Oaks home of Laura and John Spalding, grew to such proportions that this year the event was moved to Hotel ZaZa, an equally inviting place for night of unbridled revelry.
The Spaldings stood in as honorary chairs while their good friends, Maria and Neil Bush, took the helm as chairs. Claire Cormier-Thielke added a youthful note in her role as co-chair.
Veuve Clicquot continued its sponsorship of the charity fundraiser that on this night benefited the Society for the Performing Arts' education and outreach programs. Signs of the champagne's signature "yellow" were everywhere. Veuve Clicquot masks and decanters made the point and saluting the French company was the specialty drink of the night — the Yellow-tini.
For the costume bash, Neil Bush channeled Sherlock Holmes while Maria and Laura Spalding dressed of the period. (John Spalding in Burberry yellow was a late arrival due to Daddy-duty at his son's football game.) Tim Moloney stood in as the good Dr. Watson. Julie Oliver buzzed about in a bumble bee costume while Elizabeth Vail did a Queen Bee thing.
Special guest was artist Omar Angel Perez who created the smashing Veuve Stiletto sculpture that went for big bucks in the auction, led by auctioneer Jeff Smith.
Guests dancing to the sounds of DJ Derek Jones and supping on bountiful buffet fare from the Monarch at Hotel ZaZa were party designer Rebecca Johnson, SPA director June Christensen, Kiki Wilson, Rick Thielke, Yvonne and Rufus Cormier, Lester Marks, Judith Oudt, Lacy Baird and Kimberly Gremillion.
