Houston Restaurant Weeks kickoff party launches month-long dining outcelebration
Houston Restaurant Weeks doesn't officially begin until Wednesday, but participating restaurateurs started the celebration a little early, coming together on Sunday evening at Momentum Audi for a casual kickoff party.
With the restaurant folks relaxing instead of serving, guests enjoyed bites from Fadi's Mediterranean Grill, coffee cocktails made with Wolfgang Puck Iced Coffees and wine from Haak Winery and Messina Hof Winery.
Houston Restaurant Weeks founder Cleverley Stone thanked all the restaurants and sponsors for participating, reminding everyone that while the month-long event is great for Houston eateries — it has turned August from traditionally the slowest month of the year to one of the busiest — it's really about raising as much money as possible for the Houston Food Bank.
Houston Restaurant Weeks founder Cleverley Stone remined everyone that while the month-long event is great for Houston eateries, it's really about raising as much money as possible for the Houston Food Bank.
This year Stone's goal is $1 million.
More than 160 Houston area restaurants are offering special multi-course menus during the month of August at $35 for dinner and $20 for lunch. Five dollars of each dinner and three dollars of each lunch are donated to the Houston Food Bank.
For the first time Galveston and Montgomery County food banks will receive money raised by restaurants in their respective areas, and diners have the option to help out as well by texting HRW to 20222 to donate $10 towards the goal.
Among the foodies mingling were Tracy Vaught of Hugo's and Backstreet Café, Concepción owner Jorge Alvarez, Americas and Churrascos owners Michael Cordúa and David Cordúa, Smith & Wollensky GM Benjamin Berg, Arturo Boada Cuisine's Camilo Boada, Houston Food Bank president Brian Greene as well as KTRK's Miya Shay, Dave Morales of KRBE, and Momentum GM Jared Lang and Jennifer Garrett.
