Let's get sultry! Fedoras, stogies and skimpy dresses heat up the Night inHavana party
Sultry Cubano style reigned at Ocean's on Saturday night when a group of stylish movers and shakers put their talents together for what could be billed as the party of the summer — the third annual "A Night in Havana."
No fewer than 750 party animals crawled over the Montrose area ceviche-wine-margarita haunt, each dressed in his interpretation of cabana chic. Guests floated in on a wave of fedoras, guayaberas, loads of linen and skimpy sundresses. The accessory of the night was, of course, hand-rolled cigars for gents and flowers in the hair for the ladies.
Jorge Alvarez's signature mojitos and margaritas flowed. And as one party organizer John Andell reported, "The event benefited Trees for Houston. After all, with this drought, even the trees were looking for a good drink."
Guests rocked around Ocean's patio until three in the morning while DJ Senega spun Cuban dance beats.
"A Night in Havana" is one of two semi-annual fundraisers organized by a group of civic-minded couples, who throw the mega bashes and select a new charity each round. Last December, the Combat Wounded Marines Fund was beneficiary.
Those responsible for Saturday's mid-summer madness were party hosts Stacy and John Andell, Kelly and Jay Cliburn, Claire and David de Roode, James Easterling, James Gietz, Matty Harris, Ember and Jon Paul Hull, Katie and Anil Mahendra, Emily and John McAleer, Ashley and John Stevens, Lee Willeford and Christina and Dusty Wilkerson.
