Houston's youngest executive chef is finally of age, celebrates with friends and tequila toasts
At last, Peska Seafood Culture executive chef Omar Pereney is legal. And we're not talking green card, rather the wunderkind of the kitchen has finally reached the legal age of alcohol consumption.
As one of the youngest executive chefs in the country, Pereney has been earning kudos ever since opening the Galleria/Post Oak area restaurant in March.
To mark the milestone, guests gathered at the eatery to roast and toast the 21-year-old chef, who joined them in toasts with Houston's first taste of Mezcal Sacrificio. The praise and verbal pummeling came in both Spanish and English as did the singing of "Happy Birthday."
Confetti flew and Pereney's housemate, Jorge Noriega, made sure that the birthday boy got a really close look at the cake. Even with icing on his face, Pereney was all smiles.
The partying throng included Miya Shay and State Rep. Gene Wu, Mercedes Grifno, Courtney Perna, Jorge Olivarez, Manuel Rubio, Lauren and Martin Hristov, Robert Waltrip, BCN’s Luis Roger and Peska owner Maite Ysita.
