Red-hot, black-tie gala puts $1.1 million in the bank as Houston's heavy-hitters show their Heart
As is tradition with the American Heart Association annual Heart Ball, this year themed "Ignite the Night," the ladies wore red and the greenbacks flowed. And, man, did they flow at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday night. By the time the final raffle ticket for the 2014 Lexus IS 250 was sold and auction sales tallied, the black-tie gala had brought in $1.1 million.
Applause, applause for chairs Carolyn and Frank Grese, who welcomed more than 580 guests. Among them were the night's honorees — Community honorees Jan Carson and Tim Connolly; Corporate honoree Marathon Oil, represented by CEO Lee Tillman and wife Ty; and Medical honoree Dr. Igor Gregoric.
The partying spread across the Hobby Center with auction items, including the Lexus, presented on stage, dinner served in the grand lobby and the after party taking place in Artista where Jimmie Vaughan and the Tilt-a-Whirl Band performed. Chairing the late-night bash were Lauren Baughman, Ali Gray and Elizabeth Suffield.
Contributing to the million dollar take were guests including emcee Deborah Duncan, Beverly and Jim Postl, Arvia and Jason Few, Rosemary and Matt Schatzman, Susan and Dick Hansen, Margaret Williams and Jim Daniel, Nancy and Charles Davidson, Ileana and Michael Trevino, Denise and Dan Domeracki and Margie and Steven Wier.
