Craft beer lovers raise crucial money for Houston veterans with an early Valentines
What: Fifth Annual Valentines for Veterans
Where:Saint Arnold Brewing Company
The 411: More than 300 people gathered at the Saint Arnold brewery for Valentines for Veterans. Now in its fifth year, the event has grown from a spontaneous gathering of friends at Anvil to an organized event that raised more than $4,000 for Expedition Balance.
"Expedition Balance works with post-combat veterans who are dealing with combat trauma and post traumatic stress. It helps them through things like yoga, meditation and outdoor trips to create a real community with veterans supporting veterans," organizer Nishta Mehra tells CultureMap. "It’s a local, Houston-based organization. That’s why we love supporting them . . . they’re dealing directly with Houston vets."
For $10, attendees got to enjoy Saint Arnold beer and make crafts. They created hundreds of valentines which will be mailed to veterans across the country. A bake sale and raffle helped raise funds. Blood Bros. BBQ and Taco Nuts donated a portion of their proceeds as well.
