Shake Shack announces opening date for new Katy location boasting a Houston-area first
Add far West Houston to the list of places where people will find Shake Shack. The New York-based burger chain will open a new location Wednesday, July 26 at 19300 Katy Fwy.
Like the location Shake Shack opened last month in Sugar Land, the West Houston restaurant will offer a drive-thru. It will be the first Shake Shack inside the Houston city limits with a drive-thru and only the third in Texas. First introduced in 2021, the company has been opening drive-thru restaurants in suburban locations across the country.
"As a company, we are continuing to evolve and meet our guests where they are. The drive-thru adds much desired convenience and is a new format and platform for Shake Shack in the past two years,” Shake Shack chief development officer Andrew McCaughan told CultureMap last month. “We are still in the early days of our drive thru journey, and we are focused on building these formats to provide our delicious, freshly made, high quality, burgers, fries and shakes in a convenient experience for guests.”
Whether ordering dine-in or drive-thru, customers will experience the same food that’s made the chain a worldwide success. The company's iconic ShackBurger starts with premium beef that's cooked on a griddle, topped with both the signature ShackSauce and vegetables, and served on a potato bun. A vegetarian mushroom burger and fried chicken sandwich are also available. Fries, shakes, and frozen custards round out the experience.
Houston locations also feature the Lockhart Link burger. Only available in Houston, Austin, and San Antonio, it’s made with jalapeño-cheese sausage sourced from legendary Texas barbecue joint Kreuz Market.
Shake Shack will celebrate the grand opening by donating $1 per sandwich sold to the Southern Smoke Foundation, the Houston-based non-profit that provides emergency assistance to hospitality workers in crisis situations. In addition, the “first wave” of customers will receive a custom tumbler.
The new restaurant joins Shake Shack locations in the Galleria, Rice Village, Montrose, downtown, The Woodlands, and Sugar Land. Diners may expedite the wait for food by ordering ahead through the company’s app, which is available for both iOS and Android.
