Inventive salad-in-baguette sandwich restaurant rises with new Greenway Plaza location
An innovative sandwich concept has opened its first Inner Loop location.Bread Zeppelin recently opened near Greenway Plaza.
Located in the Summit Square Shopping Mall (3235 Southwest Fwy.), Bread Zeppelin is a Dallas-based sandwich and salad concept with a fresh approach. The restaurant serves chopped salads in hollowed out, toasted baguettes, an innovative configuration that makes the salad a little easier and less messy to eat.
“What we didn't like was the tortilla wrap. It was messy and cumbersome, and the tortilla never really made sense to us as a pairing for salads," Bread Zeppelin co-founder Andrew Schoellkopf said in 2021. "We knew we would fulfill a need in the marketplace with chopped salads, but the Zeppelin became our point of difference that really sets us apart from our competition.”
Options include chicken Caesar, the Southwest (avocado, tomato, corn, black beans, cotija cheese, romaine lettuce, and a dressing of blue cheese or avocado ranch), and the Washington State (grilled chicken, apples, crushed walnuts, beets, bleu cheese, greens, champagne vinaigrette). Diners may also build their own sandwiches or bowls from a selection of five different lettuce or grain bases, almost 40 vegetables, fruit, cheese, and nut options, almost a dozen proteins, and almost 20 dressings that are made fresh daily.
Other offerings include a kid’s menu, vegan options, and soups. Dessert choices include cookies and bread pudding that’s made from the hollowed out baguettes.
To bring Bread Zeppelin to Houston, the restaurant partnered with franchisee Avalanche Food Group, which operates Twin Peaks locations throughout Texas. It’s Avalanche’s second Houston-area Bread Zeppelin, joining a location in Spring that opened in 2021.
