    Doggie Dining

Slide into fall with Houston’s perfect pairing: a patio, your dog, and you

    Oct 9, 2019 | 12:00 pm

In Houston, "patio weather" comes twice a year: spring and fall. Now that temps are finally cooling (at least a bit) and autumn is on its way, it's time to head outside and enjoy eating and drinking al fresco.

What could make that experience even better? If your dog gets to join you. At International Smoke, Fido is more than welcome on the expansive patio.

The global eatery from celebrity chef Michael Mina and celebrity entrepreneur, TV host, and New York Times bestselling author Ayesha Curry focuses on wood-fired cooking with local ingredients, and its bold menu displays innovative steaks, seafood, and ribs alongside a bevy of crave-able vegetable options.

Your pup even gets his own menu of tasty yet doggie-safe dishes, such as a slow-smoked beef bone, an assorted selection of biscuits, and the Doggy Loco Moco, a concoction of ground beef and steamed rice.

Meanwhile, you get to indulge in three varieties of smoked St. Louis-cut pork ribs (American, Mexican style with golden garlic sweet and sour, and Korean style with sesame-gochujang), the Cherry-Bomb Burger (topped with pickled cherry peppers, grilled onions, and fontina cheese), fried chicken in a buttermilk brine (served with whipped potatoes, duck fat gravy, and smoky greens), or rib tip mac and cheese.

Obviously, your four-legged friend will have water to lap up while you can choose from these awesome drink specials. On Wednesdays, enjoy half off bottles from 4 pm to close or swing by for late-night happy hour, Monday through Friday, from 9 pm to close. That's when it's $2 off all craft cocktails and draft beers, wine is $6, and there's a library of spirits from around the globe that the dedicated team can walk you through.

As an extra fall bonus, bottomless rosé is available for $15 every day from 3 pm to close, only through October. Better hustle out to CityCentre, and don't forget to bring the leash.

Eating out's better with a (furry) friend.

Mexican restaurant with private tequila lockers sets Cypress opening

An upscale Mexican restaurant is coming soon to the Towne Lake development in Cypress. Galiana’s Casa Del Tequila will begin its soft opening this Monday, September 21 ahead of a grand opening on September 28.

Located at 11231 Greenhouse Road, Galiana’s Casa Del Tequila is an evolution of Galiana's Tex Mex & Agave Bar, a restaurant that closed in May. It’s part of Grupo Herrera Restaurants, the company behind Alicia’s Mexican Grille, Dario’s Steakhouse & Seafood, and Marvino’s Italian Steakhouse.

The new name comes with a new menu that’s designed to be more upscale than its predecessor. Owner Dario Herrera describes Galiana’s as “the fresher side of Mexico,” according to press materials, with a focus on high quality ingredients and tableside presentations.

Appetizers include street corn with grilled bone marrow, charred octopus, gorditas filled with pastor or chicken fajitas, and tableside guacamole. From there, diners may opt for tacos filled with pastor, octopus, vegetables, tempura fried Gulf snapper, or ribeye.

Galiana’s offers three choices of beef fajitas — skirt, ribeye, or filet — along with chicken. Diners can add familiar toppings such as bacon-wrapped shrimp, a lobster tail, or jalapeño sausage.

Other entrees include shrimp and crab enchiladas, mole enchiladas with chicken, risotto Veracruz with shellfish and octopus, and pan-seared Gulf red snapper with tequila poblano-chipotle cream. The company’s experience with steakhouses is reflected in Galiana’s steak selection that includes skirt, ribeye, an American wagyu New York strip, and a Black Angus tomahawk that’s carved tableside.

As the “house of tequila,” Galiana’s will also serve a wide range of tequila and mezcal-based cocktails, all of which are made-to-order with fresh citrus. In addition, private liquor lockers ae available for diners who want access to premium spirits and other perks.

During the soft opening, the restaurant will be open for dinner from 5-10 pm. After that, it will be open for lunch and dinner daily with brunch served on Saturday and Sunday. Reservations are available online.
