The grits (nearly) hit the fan at Breakfast Klub's eating competition
At The Breakfast Klub's 11th anniversary party on Saturday morning, there was a lot happening: A bouncy tent for kids, a live broadcast from 102.1 FM and, of course, the long line winding around the parking lot that fans find every weekend.
But they all took a backseat to the main event: the Breakfast Klub's Second Annual Grits Eating Championship of the World. Four grits-loving competitors seasoned eight bowls of grits each before digging in for five minutes as judges including KHOU's Chita Johnson, KPRC's Khambrel Marshall, ABC-13's Samica Knight and I looked on.
After coming in second place last year, Rayford Hopper of Richmond earned the championship trophy by inhaling 2.7 pounds of grits, narrowly edging out Dan Binder, who described the experience as "delicious."
