The better drinking city: Houston scores big in Best New Bars search, while Dallas is completely shutout
Food & Wine magazine wants to determine the country's best bars, and they're asking readers to help. Dubbed The People's Best New Bars, the online vote aims to crown winners in five regions across the country: Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Northwest/Mountain and West/Southwest, which includes Texas. The magazine's editors have selected 100 candidates that have been open three years or fewer.
In Houston, the candidates are Julep, the recently opened Southern-inspired cocktail bar from Alba Huerta, and Captain Foxheart's Bad News Bar & Spirit Lodge, the downtown cocktail bar that won the CultureMap Tastemakers award for Best Bar.
Other Texas nominees include The Brooklynite in San Antonio and three places in Austin: Half Step, Midnight Cowboy and all-conquering destination restaurant Qui. Sorry, Dallas — no nominees for you.
Voters can select one bar in each region. The top vote getter will become a regional winner, and the bar receiving the most overall votes will win the title.
Voting runs through Sept. 30.
