Local Foods is doubling up: Gourmet sandwich shop opening a second location in high-profile space
It's about to become easier to find a good sandwich in Houston.
Gourmet sandwich shop Local Foods will be opening a second location in the former Taco Milagro space at Kirby and Westheimer. Owner Benjy Levit tells CultureMap that the new location should open in 2014.
The original Local Foods next to Benjy's in the Rice Village area has earned raves from diners for its fresh ingredients, local products and unusual flavor combinations. The new second location's larger footprint and better parking should help it find an even larger audience.
When Taco Milagro closed after 15 years, Schiller Del Grande Restaurant Group partner Candice Schiller cited dramatic rent increases that were beyond the means of the "little counter service taco shop." This Local Foods will be the fourth restaurant for Levitt's group, a portfolio that also includes two locations of high-end fusion restaurant Benjy's.
