Restaurants Give Back
Heroic efforts battling massive Montrose fire recognized: Firefighters getting free food, drinks
Sometime it's easy to overlook the day to day heroism of members of the Houston Fire Department. Not so after Tuesday's massive blaze at 2400 West Dallas, when more than 200 HPD firefighters responded to the five alarm leveling of an under-construction apartment complex.
A few Houston restaurants are offering specials as a small way to say thank you to firefighters. If the restaurants happen to get a little positive press by piggy backing on a topic of interest, so much the better.
Goode Co. BBQ's Kirby location has been giving away free barbecue sandwiches to HFD personnel with a valid I.D. The restaurant sent along a few pictures of some of the firefighters who've stopped by to take advantage of the offer, which runs through 10 p.m. on Wednesday.
Flow Juice Bar is offering a free, 12-ounce juice or smoothie to any HFD personnel in uniform who come in either Wednesday or Thursday. The recently opened juicery tells CultureMap that no firefighters have taken advantage of the promotion (yet), but having a juice totally balances out the free drink that nearby Maple Leaf Pub is offering to buy firefighters on Wednesday.
If firefighters can't make it to any of those places quickly, Hubcap Grill owner Ricky Craig tweeted that in-uniform firefighters and police officers always receive 50 percent off at his two burger joints.
After all, it shouldn't take a special occasion to say thanks to Houston's finest.
