Who needs In-N-Out Burger? Carl's Jr. doubles up in Houston, looks to take onWhataburger
There's at least one California-based burger chain that isn't hung up on Dallas (yes, we're talking to you, In-N-Out).
On Tuesday Carl's Jr. opened its second location in the Houston area in Missouri City at 6231 Highway 6.
If recent history is any indicator, this Carl's should be a smash success. In January the first Houston-area location (at 8491 Highway 6, in the Cypress area) broke all company records, selling almost $120,000 in its first week (and that doesn't include the free burgers the company gave out around downtown).
If the pattern holds, Carl's Jr. might soon be as famous in Texas for its signature Western Bacon Cheeseburgers as it is for its too-hot-for-TV ads featuring sexy celebs (Paris Hilton, Audrina Patridge) chowing down on them.
The Missouri City store is the company's 41st location in Texas, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Over the next 10 years, Carl's Jr. is planning a whopping 270 new Texas spots, both company-owned and franchised.
Look out, Whataburger!
