Stephen Colbert showers H-Town charity bar with hilarious love, lauds "drunk donating"
Even before OKRA opened the doors to its well-appointed downtown Charity Saloon, the bar and its unusual do-good concept received national attention from Condé Nast Daily Traveler to the New York Times.
The most recent major media maven to pick up on the story is satirical Comedy Central pundit Stephen Colbert, who gave a "wag of the finger" to "drunk donating" in the recurring Colbert Report segment on Tuesday night.
"Good deeds and booze is a dangerous combination," Colbert said. "Suddenly you've got your charity goggles on, standing on the bar yelling, 'I'll raise awareness for anything that moves!' Next day you wake up wondering, 'Ugh, who did I feed and clothe last night?' "
For February, OKRA's charitable recipient could be the Houston Area Women's Center, Houston Tomorrow, Aurora Picture Show or A 2nd Cup — every drink counts as a vote for the local charity of your choice.
Plus, in honor of the mention, the bar will be offering $2 Slippery Nipples all week to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Drink up!
