Globetrotters at Killen's
Harlem Globetrotters take fans for a spin at celebrity barbecue joint
Football players aren't the only professional athletes who know a good thing when they taste it. Basketball players do, too.
On Tuesday, Harlem Globetrotters players El Gato Melendez and Hawk Thomas visited Killen's Barbecue where they entertained the crowd. After teaching chef/owner Ronnie Killen their famous spinning ball trick, the players sat down for beef ribs and brisket with a local boy battling a life threatening form of leukemia.
At this point, Killen has to be used to the celebrity attention. Houston Texans players J.J. Watt, Vince Wilfork and Shane Lechler visited the restaurant during a segment on the HBO series Hard Knocks, and the Food Network named it one of the country's top five barbecue joints.
The Globetrotters will play three games at NRG Arena on Saturday and Sunday as part of the 90th anniversary tour. Tickets start at $13.50.
