LET'S GIVE 'EM SOMETHIN' TO TALK ABOUT
LA sushi & celebrity hotspot Katsuya scopes out a Houston location
Remember all those articles citing Houstonians as dining out more than the residents of any other city? It looks like some big restaurateurs from Texas and beyond read them too.
The latest culinary crusader rumored to be scoping out a Houston spot is über-trendy Hollywood sushi house Katsuya.
Started as Sushi Katsu-ya by chef Katsuya Uechi in Studio City, the brand name really took off when Uechi partnered with SBE Group and designer Philippe Starck to create a quartet of visually stunning spaces around Los Angeles, winning awards for both food and design and attracting a celeb clientele — in the past month Ashley Tisdale, Nick Cannon and Nicole Scherzinger have been spotted there.
Now after heading announcing restaurants in America's other playgrounds, Las Vegas and Miami, we hear Katsuya is making plans for a Houston version as well, with SBE in partnership with Fresh Brew Group.
Our spies say that the restaurant is considering both West Ave. and Highland Village, at the latter looking in particular at the Restoration Hardware space, with the current tenant heading across the street.
No one from SBE, Highland Village or West Ave. is saying anything, since no lease has been signed, but we are curious nonetheless.
Has anyone checked out the Katsuya before? What do you think of it possibly heading our way?
