Houston's po' boy palace finally unwraps new Medical Center location
A new restaurant gives Medical Center diners access to one of Houston's most enduring restaurant brands. Antone’s Famous Po’ Boys has opened its new location in the Medical Towers Building at 6618 Fannin St., the restaurant announced.
Like its siblings near the Galleria and in Oak Forest, the approximately 2,000-square-foot restaurant serves Antone's familiar menu of hot and cold sandwiches, fried seafood, salads, and more. That includes its recent line of sandwiches created by local celebrities such as hip hop legend Bun B and graffiti artist Donkeeboy that raise money for local charities. Additionally, the prime spot will allow the restaurant to expand its catering business throughout the Medical Center.
Built by Construction Concepts and designed by Gin Design Group, the new location features an updated look that will soon be applied at the restaurant's other two locations. In a nod to diners on the go, the restaurant offers a dedicated "express lane" for diners who wish to get one of Antone's signature po' boys to-go. Eventually, this location will offer an all-new breakfast menu, but for now it's open for lunch daily with limited dinner hours during the work week.
"We are excited to launch our updated version of the Antone’s restaurant concept and bring more than 55 years of delicious history to this bustling area of the city,” Legacy Restaurants CEO Jonathan Horowitz said in a statement. “We are very pleased with our expanded menu featuring a wide variety of sandwiches, gumbos, salads, and packaged ‘grab and go’ items – we think this is a perfect fit for the employees and visitors in the Medical Center – whether they’re looking for a quick bite on the run or a seated meal.”
Opening this new location represents a sort of homecoming for the brand. Previously, a franchised version of Antone's operated at the corner of Kirby and Main Street. As Legacy Restaurant made plans to expand Antone's with additional locations such as this new outpost in the Medical Center, it ended those license agreements in 2018.
Antone's is just one of several new restaurants opening the Medical Towers Building. Already home to staples such as Cliff's Grill, Chipotle, Starbucks, and the Halal Guys, MOD Pizza, Roti Modern Mediterranean, Poke in the Bowl, JuiceLand, and SusieCakes are also coming to the property. These additions are part of property owner Pearl Hospitality's plans to transform the tower into a new Westin hotel that's scheduled to open in early 2020.
