Sleek luxury Australian furniture brand decks out Dec Center with Amalfi, Santorini, and Ibiza coastal chic

Just in time for backyard season, an LA-based, Australian home goods brand has opened its first Texas showroom in Houston. Luxury furniture and accessories brand Harbour has set up shop in the popular Decorative Center Houston (5120 Woodway Dr., Suite 1050).

True to the brand, the Houston store offers an array of furniture and accessories, including those from its popular Santorini and Amalfi lines.

Harbour's pieces are fade-and-liquid resistant, easy to clean, and pet-friendly.

“Houston is very on-brand with Australia and the Harbour ethos,” said Harbour creative director and co-founder Nicholas Condos in press materials announcing the opening. “It’s an international destination with a multicultural population living on or near a coastline, and Houstonians seem to have the same kind of community-oriented mindset that we have in Australia. Plus, you know how to have fun, which is key to life in Australia.”

Founded in 1976 by Jim Condos, Nicholas' father, and taking its name from that Sydney's iconic Harbour Bridge, Harbour has become a go-to for its chic, modern, sleek and contemporary coastal profile that prioritizes comfort, deep seating, and a low profile.

Its Santorini collection epitomizes the Greek island's stacked architecture, across a line of sofas, end chairs, sectionals and tables. The ability to customize fabric in shades like Siesta Indigo or Rivera Sand mean that shoppers can easily blend these pieces into their current decor.

The Amalfi collection, meanwhile, evokes the carefree dolce vita of Italy, with plush seating perfect for poolside.

Each piece in every Harbour's collection is designed and manufactured in-house, allowing the company to offer high-end goods at attractive pricing, while also ensuring the brand's devotion to customer service. Primarily concentrating on outdoor living products, Harbour does also offer interior furniture as well.

Every item is constructed from high-performance premium fabrics sourced from Europe’s finest mills. They are fade-and-liquid resistant, easy to clean, and pet-friendly. Harbour’s cushions and pillows, wrapped with a unique polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fiber called Dacron that adds comfort, plushness, and shape, are resilient and durable without losing out on any amount of comfort.

Houstonians can see for themselves why Harbour has legions of fans from Miami to Los Angeles. The Dec Center showroom is a 5,500-square-foot space, deliberately designed to help shoppers feel they've been transported to the beaches of Ibiza or the island of Mykonos.

Pieces ship directly from Harbour's Long Beach warehouse, arriving in Houston within three to five days, certainly a plus for anyone doing a an outdoor space redesign on a tight timeline.

The Houston showroom joins outposts in New York City, Los Angeles, California spots West Hollywood and Orange County, and Miami, which is set to reopen this summer.

Operating hours at the Houston store are Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm.

Bed Bath & Beyond returns to Houston via Container Store merger

The Container Store is merging with Bed Bath & Beyond.

Bed Bath & Beyond is making a comeback — well, sort of. The Container Store is merging 98 of its nationwide stores with the once-mighty home goods chain, including the its Houston-area locations location in Uptown, Champions, and Friendswood.

On April 6, Bed Bath & Beyond entered into a merger agreement to purchase The Container Store for $150 million. A release says combining the two concepts’ goods will “better serve how customers live today.”

In recent years, both brands have been struggling as part of the “retail apocalypse” of big box stores. In December 2024, Coppell-based Container Store filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy without shedding any stores.

Bed Bath & Beyond, meanwhile, collapsed in summer 2023. After filing for Chapter 11, it liquidated all of its U.S. stores. It shuttered three Houston-area stores in 2020, followed by all of its remaining locations in 2023.

As part of the merger, The Container Store will be streamlining its offerings, cutting around 30 percent of its stock. Stores will be offering clearance prices on the items starting Friday, April 24. The Container Store will also be opening an hour early on April 25-26, giving early birds an extra 5 percent discount.

“This is a reset with purpose,” said Jen Pape, Senior Vice President of Stores at The Container Store, in a release. “We are actively reshaping our stores to make room for what’s next. By streamlining select categories today, we’re creating the space and flexibility needed to introduce Bed Bath & Beyond products and deliver a more complete home experience for our customers.”

The merger affects 12 Texas stores, including:

  • Arlington — 4000 Arlington Highlands Blvd #101
  • Austin — 9629 Research Blvd
  • Dallas — 13710 Dallas Pkwy
  • Dallas — 7700 W NW Hwy #500
  • Fairview — 151 East Stacy Rd
  • Fort Worth — 4601 West Fwy #500
  • Friendswood — 18760 Gulf Fwy
  • Houston — 5466 FM 1960 W
  • Houston — 2511 Post Oak Blvd
  • Plano — 8460 Parkwood Blvd
  • San Antonio — 333 NW Loop 410
  • Southlake — 1200 Main St
