Seeing the (funky) light: Brown's contemporary traditional lanterns are aneyeopener in any home
Brown for the home, managed by Jill Brown and her son, Sam, is tucked away in a converted bungalow on Ferndale just off West Alabama, as understated and lovely as the finds within.
Brown is an antiques and design store with a special bent toward the eclectic and hard-to-find. Jill Brown is a huge collector of vintage teacher posters and a lover of fine, funky stationary. One of her staples is her signature-scented slow-burning candles, which are so hearty and organic looking that one might mistake them for a pumpkin loaf.
Our favorite find of the moment (new shipments arrive every week) are a collection of geometric, trapezoidal lanterns in varying sizes and colors. Designed by Jamie Iacoli, Brown calls them "classic yet timeless; contemporary traditional" and says they're some of Brown's more directional pieces. If you scoop these up now, you'll be ahead of the curve.
Available colors are red, white and black at $345 for the small lantern, $375 for medium and $410 for large.
