    where to shop now

Where to shop in Houston right now: 11 must-hit spots for October

    Gabi De la Rosa
    Oct 3, 2022 | 3:00 pm

Ah, it's here — the blink-or-you'll-miss-it glorious fall season has, finally, arrived in Houston. At last, it's more comfortable than ever to leave the cool relief of air conditioning to go shopping.

Whether it's looking for a flawless frock, on the hunt for athleisure for a day at the pumpkin patch, or planning the perfect outfit for holiday fêtes, we've rounded up a robust selection of must-stop destinations for savvy shoppers this month.

    Bobbie's Pinups

Vintage reproduction retail store Bobbie's Pinups will open its doors in Railway Heights on October 7. After great success at pop-ups all over Houston and seeing demand in the market, the Latina-owned business decided to open a brick-and-mortar location to give modern-day women a vintage look. The size-inclusive store stocks sizes extra small to 4X of new, high-quality clothing from brands including Unique Vintage, Collectif, Retrolicious, and Chocolaticas.

    Elizabeth Anthony

Uptown Park's beloved luxury boutique Elizabeth Anthony is replete with trunk shows and personal appearances all month long. Notably, iconic designer Jason Wu (the man who famously dressed Michelle Obama) is stopping at the boutique to showcase his Resort/Spring 2023 Collection on October 27-28.

Jonathan Cohen, Emily P. Wheeler, Arunashi Fine Jewelry Collection, Roberto Quaglia, Graziela Gems Fine Jewelry Collection and Leigh Maxwell Fine Jewelry Collection will all have personal appearances and trunk shows throughout the month. For details on dates and times, visit elizabethanthonyhouston.com.

    Gucci Eyewear

Gucci unveiled its second eyewear collection with Oscar and Grammy-winning artist Billie Eilish as the star of its visionary campaign. Taking inspiration from the film noir genre and modeling retro-inspired glasses, the campaign features Eilish on a mystique-drenched road trip — very fitting of the brand. Available at Gucci's store in the Galleria, the collection contains both optical frames and sunglasses that blend "retro allure with modern sophistication."

    Holiday Shopping Card

October 20 will mark the beginning of Houston's Holiday Shopping Card season. Lasting through October 30, shoppers will get 20 percent off at popular retailers and restaurants across Houston, including Bering's, Kuhl-Linscomb, Saint Bernard, The Monogram Shop, Tootsies, Williams-Sonoma, Anthropologie, The Container Store, Paris Texas Apparel Co., French Cuff, and more. The entire proceeds of the $75 card purchase benefits the American Cancer Society. Over the past 25 years, the Holiday Shopping Card has raised more than $18.7 million to help fight cancer.

    Marcel Market

Oui, Oui – no passport needed to shop exclusive French brands at the newly opened Marcel Market in Montrose Collective. Francophiles will love the gorgeous concept boutique with a curated collection of items imported directly from France. Founded by Paris natives Amelie and Gregory Monoviosin, Marcel Market merchandise includes women's apparel, jewelry, handmade items, skin care, candles and a treasure trove of pantry items including mustard, chocolate, candy, spreads, and olive oils.

    Matière Premiere

Connoisseurs of ultra-luxe scents rejoice – the niche French perfume brand Matière Premiere is now available in Houston. Exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue in the Galleria, Matière Premiere has a collection of eight fragrances developed by owner and master perfumer Aurélien Guichard. The fragrances contain between 85 percent and 92 percent natural ingredients, and the perfume house grows its own organic roses and tuberoses to ensure the highest quality of ingredients.

    Stitch Lab

Fashion incubator for Latin American brands, Stitch Lab, partnered with River Oaks District for a pop up during Hispanic Heritage Month. Showcasing 20 brands from Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and El Salvador, the pop up will be open to the public from Friday, October 7 to Sunday, October 9. A curated collection of women's apparel, accessories and a selection of sustainable labels will be on hand for the three-day event.

    The Conservatory

River Oaks District is now home to newly opened luxury boutique, The Conservatory. The 3,300-square-foot showroom showcases an abundance of brands and products that all focus on founder Brian Bolke's vision of luxurious minimalism. Slow fashion, sustainability, shared economy and innovation are at the forefront of The Conservatory's curated collection of men's and women's apparel, jewelry, home decor and beauty products.

    UAL

Known as the "best-kept secret in fashion," United Apparel Liquidators announced a new drop of high-end fall merchandise. Shoppers at its River Oaks outpost can revel in prices 70 to 90 percent off retail prices on brands including Stella McCartney, Tom Ford, Manolo, Bottega Veneta, Paris Texas Boots and Shoes, Off-White, Jacquemus, Isabel Marant, Agolde, and more.

    Vuori

The California-based activewear and sportswear brand that has captivated social media now has a brick-and-mortar store in Rice Village. Known for its beachy aesthetic and minimalist prints, Vuori is also known for flawless fitting pieces and ultra-premium sustainable fabrics.

    Zimmermann

To spot the inspiration for designer Nicky Zimmermann's fall collection, all a fashionista has to do is look to the stars. Located in the designer's posh boutique in River Oaks District, the focus of her fall frocks are zodiac signs, specifically a series of 12 zodiac prints designed by Scottish artist Anita Inverarity. Tonal lace catsuits provide the base layer for dresses, jacquard coats with fur trim, chunky ponchos, and sweaters.

Shop Carolyn Bessette's minimal '90s style at these 8 Houston spots

Thanks to the show, "Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. And Carolyn Bessette," 90s minimalism is back and easy to find in Houston.

Thanks to Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, the woman who helped define ’90s minimalism is back in heavy rotation. Her classic way of dressing serves as a reminder that great style does not need logos or loud trends to make a big impact. Bessette-Kennedy's uniform of crisp white shirts, perfectly cut denim, and minimal accessories is not only nostalgic, but a stylish blueprint for getting dressed right now.

Houstonians don't need a NYC zip code or a Calvin Klein press badge to recreate her most classic looks. From River Oaks District to Rice Village and the Heights, boutiques are leaning into that same pared-back polish — making it easy to find a quietly expensive aesthetic without overthinking it.

    Accessories

    Lele Sadoughi

Bessette-Kennedy often topped off her casual outfits with a slim tortoise shell headband, and Lele Sadoughi, a boutique in River Oaks District, is leaning into similar timeless styles. The Tortoise Emma Acetate Headband and the Jet Faux Leather Bessette Headband are both available for preorder with similar styles available in-store.

    Krewe

New Orleans-born Krewe eyewear in Rice Village is channeling '90s minimalistic style with slim, small-frame sunglasses that are reminiscent of Bessette-Kennedy's go-to pairs. Its Spring 2026 collection introduces the Kate and Leah styles, each offered in three colorways.

    Fly High Little Bunny

This Houston go-to for one of a kind pieces offers a variety of both fine jewelry and classic sterling silver styles. Jeweled hoops, dainty rings, and minimal necklaces that were everyday staples of Bessette-Kennedy, are available at their Heights boutique.

    Moreau Paris

Often seen carrying a tote bag, the '90s fashion icon was a big fan of understated luxury. River Oaks District handbag boutique Moreau Paris offers a variety of bags in similar styles including the Mini Vincennes Reversible Totes giving a two-in-one option, as well as the Small Ana Saddle Leather Top Handle Bag for a more structured look.

    Clothing

    Tootsies

When it came to denim, Bessette-Kennedy kept things classic, favoring straight and bootcut styles. At Tootsies, the brand DL1961 taps into that same timeless feel. The Bridget Boot High Rise Instasculpt offers a flattering polished fit and comes in a variety of colorways and lengths making it easy to find a pair for everyday wear.

    Alchemia

One of Bessette-Kennedy's most celebrated looks was a basic white button down shirt. She often wore Calvin Klein, as she was a publicist for the brand, but the same classic style can be found at Alchemia. The Essentials Icon Shirt in white is tailored at the waist, chest, and back to give a flattering fit without the dreaded blouse gape.

    Frock Shop

A versatile black midi skirt not only goes with everything, it can be worn during any season. Frock Shop carries the ALC Remy Drawstring Midi Skirt that is easy to style and comfortable to keep on a regular rotation.

    Beauty

    Kiehl's

Used by both Carolyn and John, the Kiehl's Creme with Silk Groom delivers soft hold, subtle shine, and natural movement. Ideal for the sleek low buns Kennedy-Bessette favored as well as polished styles. Kiehl's Highland Village location also carries a scent very close to Kennedy Bessette's fragrance of choice. The Kiehl's Original Musk Eau de Toilette combines classic musk with with soft floral and woody notes.
