20 things to know about dominique

Houston's Dominique Sachse talks leaving TV, beauty tips, and how women can live their best lives

    Gabi De la Rosa
    Nov 3, 2022 | 4:05 pm

For more than two decades, Houstonians tuned in to KPRC not only to hear what was going on in Houston and the world (yes, there was a time we got our news from something other than our cell phones), but also to see the fashion, makeup, and hair choices of ever-stylish TV anchor Dominique Sachse.

October marked the first anniversary of Sachse’s departure from the Channel 2/KPRC news desk. Since then, the social media darling, who has more than 2 million followers on her YouTube and Instagram platforms, has been leaning into being her best self through a period of both personal and professional transitions.

Sachse wasted no time taking on new projects, adding entrepreneur, full-time content creator and bestselling author to her already lofty resume. “When I started my YouTube channel in 2014, I sensed a shift over the years that it was becoming more and more fulfilling to me to provide content to women in their prime,” Sachse tells CultureMap.

“It was a soul-filling shift that led me in this direction. It meant giving up a great lucrative career and a steady paycheck and getting into a space where I am an entrepreneur. I don’t have those securities anymore, but sometimes in life taking the plunge is necessary and this was for me.”

Settling into a life off-air, Sachse is also preparing to be an empty-nester. Savoring the last year with her son Styles before he leaves for college, she admits that they are “up to their eyeballs in college test prep and applications.” A Memorial High School graduate herself, Sachse says that self-care is getting her through this transitional period. She credits yoga, quiet time and getting enough sleep as the three pillars of her health and wellness regimen.

“We as women take on a lot. We are working moms, and we have children who are growing. We are also in that sandwich generation of being caregivers to our parents who are aging and our children. It is a lot, and I think that to do anything well you first have to be good to yourself.”

In addition to health and wellness tips, Sachse covers topics like The Best Jeans for Women Over 50 and Makeup Mistakes to Avoid on her YouTube channel. In her videos, she recommends products, provides tutorials and is a natural ambassador for Houston brands touting Jentry Kelley’s lip line, Transparent Sunglasses, Chloe Dao, and EyeBar Houston as some of her favorites.

In one of her latest videos, Sachse, who is still besties with former co-anchors Bill Balleza and Frank Billingsley, talks about the best fall fashion for women over 40. “Fall is my favorite season when it comes to fashion because, for me, layering is just everything. There are so many great ways to layer silk in the fall. You can take a beautiful silk blouse and put it underneath a warmer blazer or a bomber jacket to make it work for Houston’s warm climate.”

Many may think they know everything about Dominique Sachse — she was on-air for nearly three decades — but here are 20 tidbits that may stump even the most passionate Dom fan.

Favorite fall colors: Classic fall colors and neutrals with pops of color like green, teal and red.

Dominique Sachse stepped away from the news desk after nearly three decades on air and dove head first into new projects.

Strangest thing in your beauty routine: I use Lansinoh Lanolin Nipple Cream as lip balm. If it’s good for the nips, it’s good for your lips. It is truly the best lip balm on the planet.

Strangest thing in your closet: I wouldn’t say it’s strange, but it is unique. It is my late father’s captain's hat from when he used to be the captain on boats. It’s a sweet reminder of him whenever I reach for a hat.

Your top three essential beauty items: Dyson Supersonic Hair dryer, self tanner and Tarte Shape Tape Concealer.

Favorite high-end makeup item: Yves Saint Laurent All Hours Foundation

Favorite drugstore makeup item: Ardell Magnetic Lash Accents

    Favorite shopping city: Houston

Best beauty advice you’ve ever received: Be diligent about sunscreen and start at an early age.

How to improve any outfit: Stand up straight.

Guilty pleasure: Changing my hair color and style every six months.

    Wedge or stiletto: Stiletto

    Joggers or jeans: Jeans

    Bomber jacket or blazer: Blazer

Cocktail of choice: Spicy skinny margarita - no salt.

    Carbs or chocolate: Carbs

    Instagram or TikTok: Instagram

Your last google search was: Karen Millen - one of my favorite fashion designers.

What do you do when you are feeling stressed or burnt out: Get some sleep & go to yoga.

How do you measure success: Joy

What three traits got you to where you are today: Tenacity, being humble, and my belief in God.

Houston bootmaker, Republic Boot Company, turns gator hunts into a custom pair of boots.

In Houston, where custom boots are a source of great pride and style, one local brand is taking the bespoke boot experience to a new level. Republic Boot Company, known for its elevated, hand-crafted creations, just launched a Gator Hunt Experiencewhere customers can source an alligator hide, which will be transformed into a pair of cowboy boots.

Part adventure and part traditional craftsmanship, the experience begins with a hunt in the marshlands near Anahuac, about an hour from Houston, and ends with a custom-made pair of alligator-skin cowboy boots tailored to the client's vision by a Republic Boot Company boot specialist.

"At Republic Boot Company, we pride ourselves on crafting boots that are not just footwear, but a legacy," said Chris Conrad, owner of Republic Boot Company. "This new Gator Hunt Experience takes that commitment to personalization to an unprecedented level, offering our customers a unique and memorable journey taking them from the bayou to the heart of the Bayou City."

The gator hunt is $5,000 per person and includes an 8.5-foot alligator (larger alligators incur extra costs). Individuals of all experience levels can participate, and all necessary permits and equipment are provided to ensure a safe adventure. After the hunt, the hide will be tanned during an eight-month process to ensure a one-of-a-kind pair of boots. Just in case the kicks aren't enough of a conversation starter, participants will also receive a professional mount of the alligator head.

Alligator hunting season runs from September 11 to September 30, so the boots won't be ready for the 2026 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Once they are complete, however, they will be wearable pieces of art with a memorable story behind them. Those interested in extending their only-in-Texas half-day hunt into an overnight experience can book overnight accommodations through Republic Boot Company.
