Where to Shop Now: Sale of unique merchandise helps aid Hurricane Harvey relief efforts
The Gulf Coast, including the Houston metro area, was devastated by Hurricane Harvey and many personally witnessed the insane amount of rain and damage that this disastrous storm caused. The support that the entire state has provided for those in need is overwhelming as people offer their time and money to help out.
Here's another way to add to the relief efforts: Go shopping. Countless designers and brands (both local and online) are donating proceeds of specific items or total purchases to the American Red Cross and other amazing charities that are helping those in need.
Among the items and stores we found are:
Houston physician James Rinado has created a distinctive T-shirt emblazoned with the phrase "Stand Bayou City" in a tile print. It retails for $25, with all proceeds donated to the Gulf Coast Community Foundation for Harvey disaster relief. The shirt is available online and will be distributed at the Eastside Farmer's Market on September 30.
James Avery "Deep in the Heart of Texas" charm
The Texas-based jeweler crafted a "Deep in the Heart of Texas" sterling silver charm to support our state in need. 100 percent of sales go to benefit Harvey relief organizations and the item, which starts at $40, is quickly selling out.
Magnolia Market "Texas Forever" T-shirt
HGTV stars Chip and Joanna Gaines are donating all proceeds from sales of their "Texas Forever" cotton tees from both their Waco store location and their online outpost.
This newly launched jewelry accessories website based in Fort Worth is donating to the cause as well. The brand's co-founder Carolyn Thorp Osborne is a Houston native. Get chic earrings from designers like Mercedes Salazar and Mignonne Gavigan and a portion of the sales will be heading down to help those in need from the Houston flooding.
The popular fashion illustrator who uses fresh and bright foods as the clothing in her pieces is donating all proceeds from her print shop to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy for the next few weeks. Houston-based designer Elaine Turner is donating 10 percent of its sales, online and retail, to the American Red Cross. This up-and-coming Dallas-based boot and accessories brand started by SMU grad Lizzy Chesnut is donating 15 percent of proceeds from boot sales to the Houston Food Bank. The geniuses behind these authentically handmade cowboy boots are extending this donation opportunity until Labor Day.
