River Oaks Movie Theatre’s lush art deco vibe was the perfect backdrop for a fashion show benefiting the American Heart Association Wednesday. The aisles became runways as models showed off looks by River Oaks shopping center retailers and after the show, style seekers shopped and sipped their way through the center.
More than 450 people walked the red carpet and then settled into theatre chairs for the show, which was preceded by a quick information session about the value of learning CPR. It wasn’t a typical fashion show fodder, but it got the point across.
The show featured everything from mommy chic and swimwear to Western wear and cocktail dresses worn by any of the Real Housewives of Anywhere. A slew of River Oaks retailers including 310 Rosemont, Em and Lee, Enticingly Chic, Haut Chocolat, La Mode Swim/Lingerie, Luke’s Locker, Rebecca & Drew and Mia Bridal.
The boutique crawl following the fashion show fed a shopper’s need for immediate gratification. Em & Lee, 310 Rosemont, Haut Chocolate, Mia Bridal, Rebecca & Drew and Twice New all hosted fetes with bites and sips. To prove the point, one shopper marched right into Rebecca & Drew and told owner Lindsey Aronstein she wanted a black shirtdress worn by a model onstage. Over at Haut Chocolat, makeup artist Edward Sanchez held court and tutorials for shoppers, even instructing women on the dangers of rushing a spray tan.
“You have to let a spray tan dry. You don’t stick your hands in a vat of bean after a manicure do you?” Sanchez asked the crowd of women.
Overall, the evening raised $13,000 for the American Heart Association.
