A bright idea
10 Texas artists will have a happier holiday
The Idea Fund, a program funded by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and administered by Aurora Picture Show, DiverseWorks and Project Row Houses, has announced the 10 Texas recipients of its 2010 grants.
The re-granting program yearly awards Texas artists and art collectives $3,500, plus an additional $500 toward their next project, to create new work in the coming year.
More than 160 individuals and groups applied for the fund this year, but the panel selected the 10 whose work most required non-traditional funding.
The 2010 Idea Fund recipients are Bill Davenport of Bill's Junk; Rudos y Tecnicos (Victor Payan and Sandra "Pocha" Peña); Wura-Natasha Ogunji's One Hundred Black Women, One Hundred Actions; PLAND, or Practice Liberating Art through Necessary Dislocation (Nancy Zastudil); Brett Koshkin with the Bayou City Soul Project; DumpTruck (Cory Wagner and Mat Wolff); Mick Johnson; Sketch Klubb's Nerd Garage Sale (Lane Hagood, David Wang, Patrick Phipps, Seth Alverson, Rene Cruz, Russell Etchen, Nick Meriwether, Cody Ledvina, Eric Pearce, J. Michael Stovall, Sebastian Forray, Jason Colburn); Potter-Belmar Labs' Panorama Marfa (Leslie Raymond & Jason Jay Stevens) and Monica Henderson's Festival of African American Film.
Congratulations to all. Now get to work. We can't wait to see what you create.
