After waiting 70 years, it's time
Inside the commercial cash grab: Al Pacino suddenly decides he needs coffeemoney
The star of some of cinema's greatest films (The Godfather, Scarface, The Insider) as well as almost every mobster movie known to man, 70-year-old Al Pacino is finally getting into commercials, endorsing a product for the first time.
In a new ad for an Australian coffee company Vittoria Coffee, Pacino says, "I drink coffee all the time so that should qualify me as someone who knows about coffee."
The black and white commercial was filmed by acclaimed director Barry Levinson. There are two different commercials where Pacino pimps the coffee. One takes the actor back to the Bronx where he states, “Those cold mornings in the South Bronx, granddad would go into the kitchen, heat up some coffee and there I was, little Al, and he would just give me a little sip.”
So his grandfather gave him an addiction to the black stuff. At least, it wasn't Pacino's other past addiction — alcoholism. When Pacino confessed to that one on camera in a 60 Minutes interview with Katie Couric, he had a cup of joe in his hand — AA style.
The CEO for Vittoria Coffee says that "The fact that Pacino is from an Italian immigrant background — just like our family — makes him feel like a true ambassador for our brand.”
Pacino has confessed that he is a coffee addict and states that most of his scripts have coffee stains on them.
Why now though Al? You've been in films for more than 40 years and you suddenly get a craving for commercial cash? Couldn't you have just drank more coffee.
