George who? Betty White plans to make everyone forget Clooney in a BrilliantHouston appearance
Betty White is brilliant. But you already knew that.
America's favorite 90-year-old is following in the footsteps of her good friend (and reported paramour) George Clooney as the next guest in the Brilliant Lecture Series. The multiple Emmy award winner, animal lover, author and comedienne will appear on the stage of the Cullen Theater at Wortham Theater Center on Sept. 22 at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
White will speak about her seven decades in the entertainment industry, which include turns in three hit comedies (The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Golden Girls and Hot in Cleveland) and a much ballyhooed appearance as guest host of Saturday Night Live. She has written seven books, including If You Ask Me (And of Course You Won’t), and is a passionate advocate for animals.
The Brilliant Lecture series has brought to Houston such notables as Queen Noor of Jordan, Sidney Poitier, former U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan, Julie Andrews, Diana Ross, Dr. Maya Angelou, Lauren Bacall, and most recently Clooney, who wowed a sellout crowd in May.
Clooney and White have an ongoing flirtation, with humorous broadsides about a fictional past fling. When White was honored with the Screen Actors Guide Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010, she quipped, "I actually know many of you and I've worked with quite a few," she recalled. "Maybe had a couple. And you know who you are."
Clooney followed her on the podium and revealed a "fling" with the icon. "In 1987, I did an episode of The Golden Girls and I would like to thank Betty White for her discretion," he said, adding, "a friend of mine told me she was a bobcat in the sack."
More recently, White appeared at fundraiser for President Obama at Clooney's home in May.
Tickets for White's Houston appearance range in price from $35-$200. For tickets, VIP opportunities, sponsorships and to learn more about the Brilliant Lecture Series visit BrilliantLectures.org or call 713-974-1335.
