Who cares if RaeLynn swore on national TV? The Voice needs this wild H-Towncharacter
The Houston area's own RaeLynn took to The Voice stage this week with a clever — albeit slightly bizarre — country rendition of Maroon 5's 2007 single "Wake Up Call" for the popular singing contest's first night of live performances.
On Tuesday's results show, the 17-year-old contestant was ecstatic to learn she'd survived another round of competition and caused some minor controversy as viewers caught her mouthing a hearty expletive (see video above).
While her song garnered rather mixed reviews from judges Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, RaeLynn easily served up the most memorable moment of the evening, channeling a long line of country divas while adding her own dose of Lady Gaga theatrics.

Born Racheal Woodward, the Baytown native has been described as a Dolly Parton-loving, horse-riding, Legally Blonde-watching country artist, a sort of new face for Nashville that brings an unmistakable pop sensibility.
Woodward graduated from high school two years early to pursue her career in Los Angeles, a decision that has lead the singer down the music business fast track thanks to the NBC show.
"She knew what she wanted from an itty bitty girl and she went for it," aunt Cyndy Mooring told KPRC Ch. 2 when RaeLynn made her TV debut in the season premiere of The Voice, which aired in the coverted post-Super Bowl time slot. RaeLynn even had the luck of kicking off the competition as the season's first performer (about three minutes into the show).
Taking on "Hell on Heels" by Miranda Lambert side project Pistol Annies during the show's blind auditions, RaeLynn gained two instant supports in Blake Shelton and Adam Levine, forcing the country-pop singer to choose between, well. . . country and pop.
"A-hem, I can make you a country star," Shelton jokingly coughed through his hands, as Levine quickly retorted with "Why would you want to be just a country star? Wouldn't you want to be bigger than that?" In the end, RaeLynn went with her instincts, taking her cowboy boots and east Texas twang over to Team Blake.
With Monday's performance, she appeared a little torn between the two judges — particularly after singing a track written by Adam Levine himself. And while Aguilera seemed somewhat underwhelmed, the fusion of country and pop still had Levine and Shelton trading jabs.
"You broke my heart when you didn't pick me," Levine smirked, laying on the guilt. "You broke my heart again today when you did our song. . . and you did it so darn good."
"You're representing the new generation of country music," Shelton said, noting that RaeLynn was the talk of the recent Academy of Country Music awards. "This is the new sound of country."
