Rumored SXSW appearance, too
The hipper sis? While Beyoncé tries to rule the world, Solange sets a low-key tour stop in Houston
Though the spotlight inevitably tends to rest upon her superstar sister, Solange Knowles has come into her own as a pop singer and an indie fashion muse of Alexa Chung's caliber (as evidenced by her Madewell debut last fall).
But despite a rising fame, Solange's style remains decidedly more under-the-radar than Beyoncé's: While the Queen Bey looks prim and polished on the glossy cover of Vogue's March Power issue, Solange is dewy-faced and sneaker-clad on the February/March cover of The Fader.
And just as websites across the globe crashed in the wake of ticket releases for "The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour," Solange quietly added a hometown date on her festival-studded tour that stretches into late summer.
You'll find Solange at Fitzgerald's on March 12, with Brooklyn-based opener Sinkane.
You'll find her at Fitzgerald's on March 12, with Brooklyn-based opener Sinkane. Tickets will run you an easy $18 in advance, or $25 at the box office on the day of the show. Compare that to Beyoncé's Toyota Center prices, which start at $45 for general admission and run up to nearly one grand for VIP packages.
Although she hasn't officially announced any SXSW dates, Solange is a big draw at 35 Denton's pre-festival festivities. Given her hot new EP and her completely clear tour schedule post-March 12, rumor has it that she could be added to the official lineup.
Or, knowing her down-to-earth tendencies, she could just be planning a trip to Austin to listen to the music.
