Classes go on through bomb threat at Texas State: Chaos started with a Houstonmessage
Texas State University is the latest college to be hit by a bomb threat.
But classes are going on in San Marcos even as an Austin bomb squad rushes to the campus. University officials say that this threat is specific enough — unlike many of the other threats recently received at places like the University of Texas — that suspending classes is not necessary.
The threat was directed at the admissions building, which has been evacuated, along with two other nearby dorms — Tower Hall and San Jacinto Hall. In an emergency message sent out to students and faculty, Texas State officials say they have created an 800-foot "safety perimeter" around the admissions building.
The bomb threat was received by a Houston-based admissions counselor who works out of her home at 7:21 a.m. Thursday morning. It came via email. The Houston-based employee told her supervisors, who alerted the police. The FBI quickly became involved and are also on the scene.
