Pet of the Week
Meet Emmylou, the huggable hound mix, CultureMap's pet of the week
Name: Emmylou, as in Emmylou Harris, one of the most decorated country singers, with 14 Grammys and a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Birthdate: June 22, 2019. I'm just a youngun. I weigh 22 pounds, but that's gonna change. I will end up a plus-sized girl, or as they say on the home shopping channels: I'll be "extra beautiful."
Ethnicity: I ain't nothing but a hound dog … mix. Here's my deal. I'm good with older children and I absolutely love playing with other dogs. I'm loads of fun. I've got a lot of energy, so being with another dog in the house will keep me active and wear me out. Like all the pooches at Citizens for Animal Protection, I will be spayed or neutered, and groomed and shampooed before I go home with you.
Here's my tip of the week. You may remember how I mentioned that I'll never visit another public dog park that doesn't have security people there. You can have all the rules in the world, but if there's no enforcement, there's no rules.
However, I've found a wonderful public dog park that is well maintained and safe. I was there last weekend and saw a couple of security officers. It's Levy Park Dog Park, 3801 Eastside St. It's got artificial turf, so it's easy to pick up poop, and everybody follows the rules. There's a separate area for big and small dogs. This is a small dog park, but it's a sweet place and dog owners make sure that no bullies spoil the fun.
Visitors must comply with directions from park employees or they'll be kicked out. People can bring only two dogs, and all dogs must be vaccinated. No dogs can be left unattended. No dogs under four months allowed.
Come and get me: I'm available for adoption at 11 am Friday, October 18, at Citizens for Animal Protection (17555 Katy Freeway; 281-497-0591). Tell them, "Ken sent me."
