Houston ranks behind Dallas, Galveston and Austin in percentage of same-sexcouples
Rick Perry might not approve, but Travis, Dallas and Harris counties evidently do.
In an infographic compiled by the Austin-American Statesman, those counties had the highest percentages of same-sex couple households: Travis County with 1.25 percent, Dallas County with 1.05 percent, and Harris County with .84 percent.
(The statewide average for same-sex couple households is .76 percent).
The map took data from the 2010 Census, which does not ask about sexual orientation explicitly but collects information on the relationships between the individuals residing in a household.
Although a more progressive blue dot in a red state like Austin might not surprise you as a haven for homosexuals, it's Dallas that has the highest percentage of same-sex households in the state at 1.5 percent. Galveston has the second-highest percentage of same-sex households in the state at 1.47 percent, followed by Austin at No. 3 with 1.44 percent.
