Luck of the draw
Ready, set, hope: Lottery registration for the Houston full and half marathonsstarts
Joggers, walkers, and sprinters, today's the day to check the pulse on your luck. 'Cause Houston's grand-scale game of runners' roulette is nigh.
But if you win this roll of the dice, all you'll get is a measly entry into a race.
Scratch that. It's an entry into the race of all races, if you're a runner in Houston.
Blow on your credit card and enter in those digits, athletes and wannabes alike. Lottery registration for the Chevron Houston Marathon or the Aramco Houston Half Marathon is finally upon us.
Right now, however, that's about the only thing worth the spike in your adrenaline. The lottery closes at 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 12, but it makes no difference if you register today or a minute before midnight on Aug. 12. All runners are registered equal.
Then, come Aug. 17, 22,000 randomly selected registrants for the full and half marathons will be notified of their successful entrance into the coveted race.
But seeing that it's still July, hopefuls have a few nerve-wracking weeks to wait.
First come, first serve be damned. It's time to engage backups. We'll be wishing on stars, rubbing rabbit feet, and looking for heads-up pennies until Aug. 17.
Will you be participating in the controversial lottery?
