Women rule Houston: City's No. 2 in America in female business founders
“Who run the world? Girls” is how Beyonce puts it in her song, Run the World. Hey, the pop superstar is a Houstonian. She'd know.
Forbes has ranked Houston No. 2 in the United States on its “Best Cities for Female Founders” list. It turns out Beycone's hometown is one of the best places for women to run the world (or at least the city).
Houston trails only No. 1 New York in women business power. Texas has the most cities on the list with Dallas right behind Houston at No. 3 and San Antonio ranking 15th.
Houston's growth in women owned firms was actually larger than New York's by 11.2 percent. However the overall number of women owned firms is much larger in New York than in Houston.
Forbes listed a few impressive statistics backing up Houston's female founders' clout.
From 1997 to 2012, the number of women-owned firms in Houston grew by 42.4 percent. Also, there are 167,300 businesses owned by women in the city.
