You can't make this up
With Fergie's non-shocker Oprah confession over, she makes a plea to Dancingwith the Stars
I don't think I'm as sympathetic to Sarah Ferguson as CultureMap Editor-in-Chief Clifford Pugh.
My first question when she appeared on Oprah today to discuss her latest scandal was, "Did she get paid for it?"
The former Duchess of York is now claiming that she accepted money (more than $700,000 was promised after a $40,000 downpayment) in return for business with her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, to help out a friend. Riiight.
Fergie told Oprah a friend "urgently" needed $38,000. So what about the other $662,000 or so? Ferguson says she was "out of control with desperation."
She was also likely (and conveniently) out of control due to the alcohol she had consumed. How much, or even what, she doesn't remember.
Her interview with Oprah was the first time Ferguson saw the full tape of her encounter with an undercover News of the World reporter. After watching it, she said she felt sorry for herself.
So, apparently, does her ex-husband, who has let Ferguson continue living in one of his homes even after news of the scandal broke. She says her daughters, too, are standing behind her.
What now? I see Dancing with the Stars in her future. (Seriously — and so might the producers).
Fergie is already making a public pitch for a DWTS spot, telling Inside Edition,"I would quite like to go on Dancing With the Stars. I would like somebody to teach me to tango ... I do love the show and my children would be so proud of me."
